The neighbourhood

Why Snowdon matters.

Snowdon takes its name from the Snowdon family farm, which covered much of this land when Queen Mary Road was a country route. Streetcars and then the 1918 opening of the Snowdon junction pulled housing in, and the district filled with brick walk-ups and duplexes between the wars.

Institutional Jewish Montréal is concentrated a few blocks from here. The Jewish General Hospital opened on Côte-Sainte-Catherine in 1934 and remains one of the busiest hospitals in Québec; the Cummings Centre, the Segal Centre and the Gelber campus are all within a short drive. Generations moved up the hill from Mile End to Snowdon before continuing west to Côte Saint-Luc and Hampstead.

For a driver, Snowdon is all about timing. Décarie clogs in both directions twice a day, Queen Mary narrows to one usable lane at the metro, and hospital pickups need a plan for the right entrance. We drop at the door that suits the appointment, not at the main gate with a long walk after it.

FAQ

Snowdon, asked and answered.

Can you drive me to the Jewish General Hospital and wait?
Yes. We drop at the entrance closest to your clinic, the driver waits with the car, and the same car takes you home. Waiting is billed as hourly time, quoted before you confirm.
How bad is Décarie traffic for a Snowdon pickup?
Twice a day it is slow in both directions. Your driver arrives about twelve minutes early and plans the route around it, and airport rates are flat, so delays do not change the price.
Do you drive for evening events in Snowdon?
Yes, hourly hire covers the whole evening: dropped at the door, the car nearby, and home whenever you are ready.
